LIVE!

I was blessed this week to be asked to spend it with the Loughridge family in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. When they asked me several months ago, I thought of a million different excuses not to go. The heat being the biggest issue. Those of us with MS cannot handle the heat, right? Travel was another issue. It's just not easy to travel when you have MS, right? Walking to and around the things you want to do is really hard, right? Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! You have to live gloriously, and you can. Life is too short not to. Just be smart about your trips. Take advantage of carts in airports, wheelchairs, motorized scooters, cool clothing - whatever you need, but for goodness sake live. The heat in Houston this summer has been absolutely ridiculous. I have sat in my apartment during the day and watched my friends do things that looked fun. No more. I will just be smart. And I will continue to DREAM OUT LOUD! -Trace

IT’S A WRAP! STAY TUNED FOR THE SEQUEL COMING MAY 2016!

TYLER BLANTON! YOU ARE AN IRONMAN! BRANDON LOUGHRIDGE! YOU ARE AN IRONMAN! What an absolutely mind blowing weekend. Brandon and Tyler both crushed Ironman Texas and there are so many other beautiful stories associated with their race. When they finished, they made me and 13 other people Ironmen as well. They have raised a lot of money (almost $1000 on race day alone) and will be giving a huge check to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. They touched the hearts of so many with their story, dedication, commitment and determination. They are truly amazing men. Correction. They are truly amazing IRONMEN. THEY are what Team Inspiration Texas is all about. Positivity. Encouragement. Support. Dedication. Purpose. I could go on and on but you get the point. Ready for the exciting sequel news??? Brandon and Tyler INSPIRED so many that several folks have already pledged to race IRONMAN 2016 for Team Inspiration Texas!!! How cool is that? In fact, some have already registered. So what Brandon and Tyler started this year will multiply and grow. Hopefully every year. Simply. Amazing. I am so very proud of the selflessness of these young men and the legacy for Team Inspiration Texas that they have created. If you would still like to contribute to the boys you can do so at www.gofundme.com/fupsvg. They will keep the account open until they cut the check to the MS Society! With IRONMEN Brandon, Tyler and me, KEEP DREAMING OUT LOUD! -TRACE

THE EYES OF COMPASSION

Ironman Texas is just two days away. It is so hard to believe that Brandon and Tyler's journey of the past year culminates this Saturday. As Tyler stated in his Facebook post yesterday, this week has really been a roller coaster of emotions. Anxiety. Excitement. Maybe fear. But when I read the boys’ posts from the past year, there is absolutely nothing suggesting that they are doing ANY of this for personal recognition or glory. I see nothing but unwavering support, compassion and love for those that they are competing for. They are doing this so that when they cross the finish line, every single one of us they race for symbolically becomes an Ironman. They do this so that we continue to face and fight our challenges with positivity and gusto like Ironmen and Women. Besides me, they are racing for Carla Maxwell, Laureen Pedrotti, Terri Shires, Karen Carrothers, Audrey Blank, LaChelle Lowe, Tyler Bourque, Roberto Aguilar, Stuart Sablatura, Phil Zetnick, Brian Brown, Jordan Cox and Mark Ragusa. Please join me in sending these boys off in the manner that they so richly deserve. Whether it's through prayer, sending good thoughts or vibes or Moe Joe or however you do it, please lift them up so that they remain safe and strong during the entire race. It still absolutely amazes me that these boys are 21 and 22-years-old. Through them, we see great hope for the future. Also, if you are able to give anything to the boys in support of their amazing efforts please do. You can do so at www.gofundme.com/fupsvg. All proceeds of their fundraising efforts will go to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Please join us in this journey. Join us in positivity and happiness. 25 DAYS. $7000.

Well the 2015 MS 150 is now in the books. Brandon, Tyler and Tyler's brother, Garrett, destroyed it. What an absolute thrill it was to watch them turn that final corner and head towards the state capital and finish line. That sight will never get old for me. Next stop is Ironman Texas with Brandon making a small detour for the CB&I sprint triathlon at the beginning of May, the very triathlon that I competed in in 2011 when Team Inspiration took flight. If you have not read the boys’ story, when they started this great adventure, they not only had the goal to compete in 2015 Ironman Texas in my name but they also wanted to raise $20,000. They wanted to raise the costs for the races and equipment (which has now been far exceeded) and they wanted also to raise money for the National MS Society to help conquer this horrible disease. Let’s help them make that check a huge one. If you are able to give anything to the boys in support of their amazing efforts please do. You can do so at www.gofundme.com/fupsvg. Please join us in this journey. Join us in positivity and happiness. And with Brandon, Tyler and me, KEEP DREAMING OUT LOUD! -TRACE

47 DAYS!!!

In preparation for IronMan Texas, IronMan Jim, task master extraordinaire, put our boys, Brandon Loughridge and Tyler Blanton, through the paces this weekend. That is 114.6 miles this weekend! Yesterday they had a little 94 mile bike ride followed by a 4 mile jog. Today they had a 15 mile run followed by a 1.85 mile swim. 47 days. Oh yeah. They'll be ready. So proud of these boys! I encourage and invite each of you to read this amazing story from the boys’ mouths at www.gofundme.com/fupsvg. If you are able to financially support them in any way, please do, regardless of the amount. Join us in this journey. Join us in positivity and happiness. NEXT!

I want you to know that Brandon Loughridge and Tyler Blanton did not participate in this weekend’s Woodland’s Marathon. THEY CRUSHED IT!!! For their FIRST marathon, Tyler came in at 3:53 and Brandon at 4:28. Amazing. Simply amazing. And, not surprisingly, they did not claim personal success but rather told people that “Today was a good day for Team Inspiration.” Indeed it was. Team Inspiration’s own Jim Harrington finished with a time that allows him to compete in the Boston Marathon. Good day indeed! I continue to be surrounded by people that make me want to fight harder, be stronger. I am truly a Blessed man! As the IronMan draws near, cheer Brandon and Tyler on as they train. Next stop - the MS 150. I encourage and invite each of you to read this amazing story from the boys’ mouths at www.gofundme.com/fupsvg. If you are able to financially support them in any way, please do, regardless of the amount. Join us in this journey. Join us in positivity and happiness. THE GIFT(S) THAT KEEP ON GIVING

Positivity. Compassion. Kindness. These are some of the very, very many gifts that Brandon and Tyler have given me by taking on IronMan Texas 2015 in my honor. I told you that they were getting a great deal of attention for their work. In fact today, the Texas A&M University paper, the Battalion, ran a story on these amazing young men and what they’re doing. Please take a moment to read this story. It is truly inspiring. Check it out at: http://www.thebatt.com/news/view.php/861601/A-plan-a-purpose-a-cause-Two-students-ba As the IronMan draws near, cheer these guys on as they participate in this weekend’s Woodlands Marathon, followed by the Tall Texan Half IronMan and the MS 150. I encourage and invite each of you to read this amazing story from the boys’ mouths at http://www.gofundme.com/fupsvg . IT’S GETTIN’ REAL UP IN HERE!

Ironman Texas is only 119 days away. Brandon Loughridge and Tyler Blanton have grabbed this bull by the horns and are really taking control of it. Besides their extremely intense daily training regimen, after their first half marathon, their training schedule includes the MS 150 and the Woodlands Marathon before the big race on May 16, 2015. They have garnered the attention and support of so many people. It is just overwhelming to me. They have honored me beyond words by participating in this race in my name. In fact, they are so serious and dedicated to this endeavor that Brandon has already bought his tri-bike (pictured above) with his own money and without being concerned with whether their fundraising efforts will come through to assist them in paying for all of this. Theirs is amazing dedication. What absolutely amazes me, astonishes me and astounds me is that I know one hundred percent that these boys are not doing a bit of this, not one iota, for personal recognition. They are doing it for me and for others who are fighting some challenge that they face. They are doing this to remind us that we are not alone. They're doing this to remind us to stay strong. How very very rare for a 20 and 22-year-old. I encourage and invite each of you to read this amazing story from the boys’ mouths at www.gofundme.com/fupsvg. If you are able to financially support them in any way, please do. Join us in this journey. Join us in positivity and happiness. Stay tuned for updates on Brandon and Tyler’s incredible journey. AND THEY'RE OFF!!!

I recently told you about two amazing young men, Brandon Loughridge and Tyler Blanton, who have honored me beyond words by taking on IronMan Texas 2015 in my name. They have pursued this in addition to heavy college work and their other obligations in life with a gusto that is rare to be seen, especially in people their age. Well last weekend, they officially kicked off their commitment by participating in their first half marathon. And they finished it in AMAZING time and in grand fashion. I so regretted that I was unable to be at the event for them and expressed that to them. They assured me that I was with them EVERY step of the way and sent me the picture of my name on their wrists. Wow. Just wow. These boys constantly surprise and amaze me. Not only that, they have approached their commitment with such compassion and devotion that they have drawn the attention of many. They have taken it upon themselves to honor others who face and fight challenges, along with me. They created a Facebook event called “Trace’s Big Race – Team Inspiration” and in just over 24 hours, more than 100 people plan to attend. Hopefully, they will all meet me at the finish line and recognize this amazing accomplishment, not just athletically, but for how many people they have touched and affected by this incredible gift. This goes along with everything we have always said. Positivity breeds happiness, health and a life full of joy. These boys’ gift to me has made me renew my own commitment to push myself a little further in the gym – and in life. I encourage and invite each of you to read this amazing story from the boys’ mouths at www.gofundme.com/fupsvg. If you are able to financially support them in any way, please do. I ESPECIALLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO TAKE THE TIME TO READ THE ENTIRE STORY AND ALL OF IT’S UPDATES. Join us in this journey. Join us in positivity and happiness. Stay tuned for updates on Brandon and Tyler’s incredible journey. And like Brandon, Tyler and me- KEEP DREAMING OUT LOUD! -Trace

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, MEET BRANDON LOUGHRIDGE AND TYLER BLANTON

When I started this amazing adventure back in 2010, I had no idea how many people would have such a truly significant and profound impact on my life. This is especially illustrated as two of our young people, Brandon Loughridge and Tyler Blanton, have committed to fulfill a dream of mine in my place. This is not to say that I do not continue to have that dream and that I hope to someday accomplish it, but these young men have committed to race the 2015 Ironman Texas in my name. Amazing. It is quite easy to say that you want to do something, but another matter entirely to actually do it. In a few short months, I have seen these young men transform themselves and train with true passion and dedication. They are both college students (with economics and architecture majors – not light study loads), yet they take time each day to train hard to make sure that they will accomplish this dream … my dream. I’m so proud of these young men. While I have known Brandon since he was in high school, I met Tyler the day before last year’s MS150, where he and Brandon road in my name. The compassion and dedication of these men has truly touched me. Their desire to help others selflessly is astounding. Because the costs associated with equipment and training for a race such as Ironman is extensive and because these are college students, they have even taken it upon themselves to start a fundraising campaign. When I read Brandon and Tyler’s fundraising site, I nearly fell out of my chair. Not only do they want to raise the money necessary to get their equipment and training materials, they want to raise a substantial amount for multiple sclerosis research. I’ve said it before and I will say it again, our young people absolutely amaze me. Please take a moment to go to their site and read their amazing story. I assure you that it will put a smile on your face and foster the positivity that we have always talked about here. If you’re able to please donate something, anything, to this worthy and noble cause. The site is www.gofundme.com/fupsvg. Please join our team in supporting these fine young men.

ANY QUESTIONS?!?!

I know that I JUST posted but while I was posting my new blog, Brandon posted this on Facebook. I have to share. My point is made: I have a dear friend who was diagnosed in 1999 with Multiple Sclerosis, and over the past 5 years I have gotten a first hand look at what it can do to the human body. When Trace came into my life for the first time during my senior year of high school, I immediately knew that our relationship would flourish. My senior year of high school, I had the opportunity to do the CB&I Triathlon with Trace and some friends from school. Not only was it an incredible experience, but an event that had a profound impact on my life. As Trace and I starting becoming more knowledgeable about one another, I slowly came to understand the everyday battle he fights just to live. A year later, I found myself riding and finishing the MS150 with Trace. To this day, that is one of the best moments of my life. To see a man, who is beating the odds against a disease that was supposed to kill him years ago, finish a race that was almost impossible for him. This past year, I found out that Trace's health wasn't gonna let him do it again. It didn't take long for me to commit to riding it for him. This time, I had the chance to bring my roommate, Tyler, along. Again, it was a bittersweet moment when we approached the finish line and saw Trace standing there waiting for us to finish. Before we crossed the line, Tyler and I decided to pull to the side to give him a hug. As tears filled my eyes, I realized how much of an impact we had made on this mans life just by riding in his spot. It wasn't long after the MS150 that I had the chance to sit down and talk with Trace about the one thing that he has always wanted to do. Quickly, he replied: "The Ironman". My mind was blown. My immediate thoughts were those of doubt. After 5 years of seeing what MS has done to his body, I knew that his dreams are slipping out of his reach. After extensive thinking, praying, and conversing with those around me, I knew what I wanted to do. I committed myself to doing Ironman Texas 2015 in Trace's place. My purpose of doing this isn't to generate a response from people, but to do it for a man that I love dearly and the disease that he fights. 318 days from now, Tyler and I hope to cross the finish line and embrace a man that has shown us what the value of life really is. If you're reading this, my hope is that YOU will come along (with support) and be apart of this journey with us. KEEP DREAMING OUT LOUD! -Trace

THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING

When we started this great adventure in 2010, I had no idea how much the individuals that joined with me would change and touch my life. I had no idea how deep the friendships that I made would become. I had no idea how much I would enjoy this experience. I am truly a Blessed man. Perhaps the thing that has touched and impressed me the most is how our super-jocks have responded and truly taken me on as their “project”. This year, Brandon Loughridge and Tyler Blanton rode the MS150 for me. They stopped before the finish line to see me and the moment that I had with them is something that I will never forget. After that ride, they informed me that in 2015 they were doing … (wait for it) … IronMan Texas for me! They know that I have always dreamed of doing a full IronMan. Brandon reminded me that we are a team and that he and Tyler were just doing the racing for me and the team. Wow. Just wow. Our young people continue to amaze and impress me. Thank you guys. So very much. KEEP DREAMING OUT LOUD! -Trace By the way, doing an IronMan is NOT cheap, especially for college students. The equipment costs and entry fees are extensive. If anyone would like to help them financially, email me at trace.sherer@gmail.com and I will be more than happy to put you in touch with these fine young men.

FRIENDS

I have been so fortunate to have been Blessed with so many TRUE friends. You know – people who stay with you through the good and the bad. People who expect nothing from you except for your friendship in return. People who you might not talk to for years and then, when you do, you feel like you spent time with them yesterday. You do not get to keep your friends just because you made them years ago. You have to earn your friendships every day. That is a privilege. My friendships have given me the strength to continue to fight and beat MS. This goes hand in hand with the positivity that we have talked about for years. Chose to be around people that lift you up and do not tear you down. As hard as it may be, remove people from your life that are not real, true, genuine friends or limit your exposure to them to the extent that you can. It truly makes a huge difference. KEEP DREAMING OUT LOUD- -Trace

LIMITATIONS

Wednesday nights in the Spring and Fall are my favorite nights of the week. I get to kayak Lake Conroe during the FSR IronMan practice swim. It gives me time to think and reflect in an amazing setting. Last night I was thinking about a movie. I love the movie The Internship with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. There is a line in it that we should all apply to our lives. “If you fight for your limitations, you get to keep them.” True, huh?! One of my best friends just took an incredible new job. He got out of school about 4 years ago, has been recruited heavily to various jobs, each time better than the previous one. Compared to the job he began in, in four short years he has now exceeded it many times in terms of salary, prestige of firms and responsibility, making a path for himself for a meteoric future. He refuses to fight for his limitations. Had he stayed with his original employer, he surely would have withered on the vine as that firm is now doing. Shouldn’t we all handle MS or really any of life’s challenges that way? Don’t fight for our limitations. Fight to leave them behind. Fight to better ourselves in every aspect that we possibly can. Fight for a better life. Good to talk to you again and KEEP DREAMING OUT LOUD! -Trace

NEVER STOP TRYING

Okay boys and girls. It has been a really long time since I posted anything. I have always tried not to just say the same old things as I have said before and, well, I have been kind of stale. In the last year with that crazy thing called life, I have not been working out as much as I had been. As much as I should. As much as I MUST. Shame on me, right? Well, I am happy to report that I am back to it and there has been a vast improvement already. I would love to say that this has been some kind of carefully planned experiment, but that would be a lie. But enough about me … kind of. Last night I was once again given the invaluable opportunity by Tom Gonzalez and Biogen Idec to speak to a group of MS patients and their families. The people that I meet and hopefully encourage at these talks is truly mind boggling. Last night was no different. I was Blessed to spend a great deal of time with a man whose wife not only has MS, but who recently underwent a quadruple bypass. He was desperate to help her get more active and more healthy. She is confined to a wheelchair … right now. Through our conversations of her dreams, she wants to get out of the wheelchair. We talked about the extremely small steps that she needs to take and the fact that it just does not matter how long it takes to achieve her dreams. She wins, she beats her MS by trying … EVERY DAY. Earth to Trace! Last night was so important to me. I have been slacking. Without an excuse. Last night removed my excuse to have a pity party for myself and get my butt back to work. Sometimes we do not even have to look very hard to be reminded that there is always someone with a greater obstacle to overcome than us. If they are willing to try, shouldn’t we?! Get rid of your excuses and, KEEP DREAMING OUT LOUD! -Trace

THE IMPORTANCE OF VITAMINS/SUPPLEMENTS

We have previously talked about things that I have found that help me. We have not talked a lot about nutrition or vitamins/supplements. That is because that is one area that I have been significantly poor at understanding. Until now. I wanted to tell you about some new supplements that I have found that are really making a difference for me. Before the triathlon, I tried to take supplements and vitamins that were pure and that would help. Well, many of the things that I was taking really did not help or were not pure. Jim and another friend have recently started taking AdvoCare supplements as a part of their crazy Ironman and running training. Before changing from the many products he had used for years in his Ironman training, Jim spent the time necessary to do extensive research on the AdvoCare line. He has noticed a HUGE difference so I started taking them. HOLY COW! Gone are the days where I had a hard time keeping my eyes open after 8! I strongly suggest that you give them a try. I found that they have made such a huge difference to me that I became a distributor to get my own products at a discount. You may wish to consider doing the same but regardless, give them a try and see if they help you! You can check them out at www.advocare.com. I take Coreplex (a multivitamin/mineral supplement) Probiotic Restore Ultra and Immuno Guard. I also drink 2 to 3 Sparks (an energy drink) a day. Most products nowadays have many artificial fillers with high levels of sugar in them and most people do not know what they are actually putting into their bodies. With AdvoCare, you get the highest quality products and don’t have to wonder about what’s going in your body. With 20 years of focus on wellness, lifestyle, scientific excellence and exemplary standards, AdvoCare has created pure supplements that have made a difference to many folks seeking a healthier lifestyle, weight loss, athletes and even those suffering illnesses like Multiple Sclerosis and Autism. What got my attention was the endorsement of really major athletes and Olympians but what impressed me was when I experienced the personal improvement. Check out the website (www.AdvoCare.com). It is pretty amazing. Part of becoming healthier is monitoring what you put in your body. We all should be taking at the very least a good multivitamin. Go to the web site and check out all the products! If you decide you want to try some products, go to “contact a distributor” then “I already know a distributor” and enter distributor code “130640525”. My goal is to help others and when I find something that makes a difference I need to let you know. KEEP DREAMING OUT LOUD! -Trace

JUST MOVE AND GET OUT OF THE WAY

I was once again honored and humbled to be asked by Brooke McKinney, Tom Gonzalez’s teammate at Biogen Idec, to speak at a PEP event in San Antonio, Texas, last night. PEP stands for Patient EMPOWERMENT Program. What an awesome name! AND what a huge responsibility for the speaker! I am happy to report that when asked, EVERY person in the room became empowered when they shared their dream out loud with someone else and started their own amazing journey. And after the program, so many folks inspired me as they shared their dreams with me on the way out. What an incredible night. Mission: Empowerment. Mission SO accomplished! On the trip back home, I reflected on the incredible events of the last three years. Why have I been so crazily Blessed? The answer slapped me across the face ... hard. Because I just moved and got out of the way and let things happen. I am not saying that you should not plan for your future or plan your life. Just be prepared to go off-road, throw away the map, and re-plot your course when a phenomenal opportunity presents itself. As we have said on here: Do not regret yesterday. Learn from it. Do not over plan tomorrow. If you do either, you miss the beauty that is today. Oh. And KEEP DREAMING OUT LOUD! -Trace

IT AIN’T ALWAYS PURTY

Over the last couple of months, some things have happened to keep me humble. That is a good thing. I went to Galveston to watch Jim and some other friends compete in a half IronMan competition. However, I was not smart about how I did it. Despite the fact that I knew that it would be hot and sunny eventually, I wore black. I did not stay hydrated because I did not want to have to constantly find and walk to a bathroom. To make a long story short, I ended up in the medical tent after getting overheated. Then a couple of weeks later, I went with Dorie Brannigan (Because We Can Ron Brannigan’s wife) and rode around LaGrange in a golf cart at the halfway point of the MS 150 shaking hands and kissing babies. (I knew I was okay because I did not confuse it and shake babies and kiss hands!) I woke up at 4 in the morning Saturday and had an awesome day, shocking myself that I did not crater at all during the very active day. We went to the finish line in Austin on Sunday. I had not slept well the night before in a tent in LaGrange. Again, I did not properly hydrate or eat. I was just fine in Austin. Really, I was. Until noon. Then I cratered in a big bad ugly way. Last weekend, though, I was smart. Jim, Scott and I participated in the Cinco de Miler 5 mile run in Dallas. Well, Jim and Scott did. I rode for 5 miles in a wheelbarrow pushed by Jim! I had been having some trouble with my walking lately and just did not want to put myself in a position of embarrassing myself by starting a 5 mile walk that I would not be able to finish in time. I had resolved myself that I would be at the finish line to cheer my friends on. When Jim offered to push me all 5 miles in a wheelbarrow, who was I to deprive him of that pleasure! The point of all of this is to remind you of many things we have learned and talked abut here. Be smart! Prepare yourself for and think carefully about whatever you are doing. But most importantly, GET OUT THERE AND DO IT. Over the past three years, there have been many times when it would have been easier to stay and home and avoid the various bad situations I put myself in. But that is NOT living. Plan, be smart and LIVE. Oh, and for goodness sake, KEEP DREAMING OUT LOUD! -Trace

THE UNMISTAKABLE LOOK OF HOPE

I am truly honored and humbled to have been given an opportunity by Tom Gonzalez and the folks at Biogen Idec to speak at a program in Clear Lake last night. When I started this great adventure three years ago (HOLY COW! IT’S BEEN THREE YEARS), my goal was to complete a triathlon without killing myself. Little did I know what amazing things were in store for me. Last night is a perfect example. Although the experience is really universal, I will talk about one person. When she got to the event, she used her walker and the best way that I can describe the way she looked is by using the words tired and on empty. I mean absolutely no disrespect with this description. We have all been there, done that, bought THAT t-shirt. When she came to say goodbye to me before she left, there was an obvious and unmistakable look of hope on her face. That beautiful glint was in her eye. The quality of her life had already, instantly, improved. Mind boggling. This is where the importance of Dreaming Out Loud is so apparent. Think of it as starting a campfire. I mean the old fashioned way and not with a gallon of lighter fluid. It starts with a spark and then, as you fan the flame, move the kindling and work with it, it becomes a full fledged fire. If you just create the spark and leave it untended, the fire will most assuredly never start and the spark will just go out. The gleam of hope in someone’s eye requires work. Not just by the person who is fostering the dream, but by everyone who learns of it. Foster and nurture the dream through positive encouragement. Share in the creation of a beautiful fire. It has been a while since I posted a blog. I have not wanted to rehash old ideas. I wanted to share something new and exciting. That unmistakable look of hope was pretty freakin new and exciting. Just sayin. KEEP DREAMING OUT LOUD! -Trace

A RESOLUTION THAT YOU CAN KEEP!

Make your New Year’s resolution mean something. This year, promise to do something for yourself and others that really matters. Resolve to dream out loud more and resolve to beat a challenge. It does not matter what it is. Make the resolution something that you can achieve and share that with someone else. With many others! By doing so, you create an environment of encouragement! There are no small resolutions. It is my hope that your 2013 is ridiculously amazing. Make it so. You are in control. Keep Dreaming Out Loud! -Trace
